Nursery Rhymes

Humpty Dumpty
Discreetly, Humpty Dumpty sat on the Wall
Coincidentally, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall

All the King’s horses and all the King’s men observed, and blurted they couldn’t put Humpty together again. So they all pondered how to put Humpty together again.

We are learning to use interesting language in our writing. Our task was to chose a well known nursery rhyme, after that we had to try use interesting words. These words are : Coincidence, Discreetly, Observed, Blurted and Ponder. But to use the words sufficiently, we had to learn what they meant. So After finding the definition of each word, I started writing the nursery rhyme and along the way I selected places to put each word.

Maths Problems 2

WALT: Solve measurement, algebra and fraction problems

This week, we are learning to solve measurement, algebra and fraction problems. It was a pretty easy task as soon as you figured how to solve each slide or problem. I thought the perimeter slides were the easier than the rest of the presentation. So I think that perimeters and sometimes areas are part of my strengths in Maths. Thanks for visiting my blog :)

History of McDonald's

What is the History of McDonald’s
McDonald’s,a common fast food restaurant whose menu is made up of many types of burgers and flavoured drinks. Nowadays, McDonald’s and KFC are just two of eight fast food restaurants that have conquered New Zealand.

Let me explain to you the amazing history of McDonald’s. Many fast food chains are invented years back, just recently was invented Nutella and Spaghetti, at a Italian Restaurant in Australia

Did you know that McDonald’s was established on the 15th of April 1955. It was invented by an American Businessman Ray Kroc, who’s full name is Raymond Albert Kroc.

Ray Kroc got involved with the Californian Chain McDonald’s in 1954. He then built it into a nationwide business, and eventually a global franchise. Which made it the most successful fast food corporation in the world.

Unfortunately, Mr Kroc died on January 14th in 1984 but he never stopped working for McDonald’s. His legacy continues on to this day as the corporation continuously supplies customers with great tasting inexpensive food.

In summary, McDonald’s, one of the most popular fast food restaurant in New Zealand was invented by a Great Successful Businessman Ray Kroc. And that is the history of McDonald’s, my dear readers.

WALT: Look for clues in the text to help us make meaning when we interfer. Use the process of elimination to find the 'best fit' answer.
This week for Literacy, our learning focus is we are learning to look for clues provided in the text to help us make meaning when we interfer. Anyway, Our text this week is about a girl who has been suffering from Grave disease for the past two years. Well she is still recovering, she came back to school where she harassed daily by two girls. Thanks for visiting my blog :)

Identify Fractions

WALT: Identify fractions : part of a whole
This week, we are learning to identify fractions, so during the test we are abled to answer the fractions questions in the test. In my opinion, it refreshed my memory that involves fractions. Because, honestly fractions are not one of my greatest strength.

Different Strategies to Solve Problems

WALT: Use Different strategies to solve maths problems

This week, we are learning to use different strategies to solve maths problems. In my opinion, by learning multiple strategies to solve maths problems and word problems, this will help us during the test. In the presentation above, I didn't find any hard problems but it did refresh my memory.

Parts of a Orchestra

For this Term, our term topic is Musical Madness. Our Term Focus Question is 'How do Composers use music to evoke an emotional response in a Audience ?'. This Week, we are researching information an parts of a orchestra. Instruments in a Orchestra are divided into specially sections where they perform. For an Example : The Violins are divided, Cellos are on the right outer side, and The First & Second Violins are on the left outer side.

Inference

WALT: Making Inferences from a text
This week, we are learning to make inferences from a text. Inferences means making a conclusion or assumption based upon using evidence, reasoning, or logic. My opinion on the text is that it was very amusing and sometimes tricky trying to make a inference, based only upon evidence from the text.

Extenstion Project Reflection

This term for our Extension Project, we had the opportunity to create projects with Makey Makey Kits. Joined by Zoey from OMG Tech, we were able to create these projects.

My Team and I created a Game show using Makey Makey. Fortunately for me, our game show didn’t just consist of just coding. Our Game show had the least amount of coding in all of our projects. It was mostly had create jobs in it such as, making the buzzers, cards for the host to read off and other jobs too.

My opinion of the projects is that it was really amusing creating the buzzers and experimenting with it. While making the buzzers, We used materials like : Playdough, Aluminium Tin foil, Wires and Paper.

Lessons I learned from this Project were :
  • Working Better as a Team
  • Letting our Imagination Free
  • Last but not least how to experiment and amuse yourself.

Qualities of a Good Role Model

Qualities of a Good Role Model
A Good Role Model, a person who represents as an example for others to follow. Role Models can sometimes become people who characterise themselves in good principals and respect. Let me explain to you the amazing qualities of a good role model. Good Role Models are shown throughout history.

A spectacular female role model through history was Kate Shepard. This outstanding Lady was recognised as the leader of the fight, for New Zealand women to have the right to vote. She won the fight and alongside achieving women the right to vote in New Zealand, therefore shows great girl power and is a great role model for women and young girls.

A Good Role Model is a person who is respectful, encouraging, confident, positive, calm and funny. Being a Good Role Model isn’t an easy job, there is a lot of responsibility and sometimes pressure accompanied by the status. While being a good role model, teachers sometimes depend on you to be an example. For an example: Imagine that you’re in class during a lesson, the Teacher uses you as an example.

Another fact about being a good role model is selflessly helping someone else. Selflessly helping someone means helping someone else without thinking about yourself first. Nowadays, only a distinctive amount of the public can help people selflessly.

But the most important quality of a good role model is that they must be someone who can be modesty and openness to admit to their mistakes. Only a few people can be modest and willing to admit that they made a mistake.

In my opinion, I think that a Good Role Model needs to be someone who makes mistakes. Because by making mistakes, the person can learn from them and advise others from not making the same.

In this explanation, I have explained the qualities of a Good Role Model. Just a reminder, a Good role model needs to be someone who has good principals and respectful. Now that you know about the qualities of a Good Role Model, please feel free to take the time and identify some Good Role Models in your life.

Multiplicaton Strategy in Parts

It's approximately nearly testing week and in order to prepare, everyone in their maths class are practising their problem solving strategy. In this week's presentation, we are learning to use strategy Multiplication in parts with larger numbers. My opinion on this task are that it was a great way of refreshing our minds on this strategy.

Niue Language Week !!

Did you know it’s Niuean Language Week? To celebrate this special occasion, the Niuean Students and Teachers of Point England School had prepared a performance for Assembly this Friday.

The Theme for Niue Language week is ‘Ko e Vagahau Niue ko e Atefua he Tagata Niue’ which means ‘The Niue Language is the Heart of Niue People’.

By making an inference, I think by saying ‘The Niue Language is the Heart of Niue People’ it might mean being able to speak your mother tongue is special and should be treasured.

Nowadays many Old & Young people can’t speak their mother tongue. For your information (FYI), Mother's tongue means the language you knew when you were born.

An interesting fact about New Zealand is that New Zealand is a multi cultural country, meaning you get the amazing opportunity of learning about other languages and cultures.

Decimals & Whole Numbers Word Problems

WALT: Solve addition problems by changing one decimal into a whole number

This week is the first week back from the holidays. This week, we are learning to solve addition problems by changing one decimal into a whole number. When we are using this strategy, One Number gets bigger and the other gets smaller. Anyway, this presentation was easily completed. After fully accomplishing the presentation, I think my skills on this strategy have improved and my understanding has become much more transparent.

An Unordinary Immersion Assembly !

Personally, I think the most Interesting Immersion Assembly topic was Team Four. Oh, So Sorry for interrupting, I was just thinking which team had the most interesting topic. Anyway, as Traditions must always be continued, It is practically a tradition at Point England School to have an Immersion Assembly at the Start of each New Term.

You might be wondering what Team Four's topic is going to be for this term. Well to simply put it, the Team Four Teachers had prepared a video which had them in a car listening to different genres of songs. Each Genre of Song had the teachers moving in different ways. After watching the video, I was left pondering and debating whether or not the video is similar to Celebrity Carpooling with Jimmy Fallon. Whether or not, you realize it is entirely up to you but I think so.

Another unusual Immersion Assembly topic was Team Three. This term, Team Three will be learning how to tell a Story through Music. Team Three as well, had prepared a video, which starred the Teachers saying words which were related to songs. It's a bit difficult to example what they were doing but they had the range of songs, that we could recognize.

And of course, What would I be learning about? Well this Term, Team Five are learning about how do composers use music to evoke an emotional response in an audience. In my opinion, I think this term topic might be fun but serious at sometimes. And I have a shocking discovery, I am actually intrigued by the term topic. Well, for now, I would just have to wait and see how this term will play out.

Decimals - Addition & Subtraction

WALT: Adding and Subtract using Decimals (Word Problems)
This week for Maths, My Maths Group is looking at adding and subtracting decimals. Our WALT is adding and subtract using decimals in Word Problems. On the last slide, there was a Create task. This week, our create task was to create a Presentation with 4 word problems on our Own. After creating the task, we have to publish it to our blog with comments about our learning.

The Floundering Project

The Floundering Project
During the entire time we stood and sang waiatas, I was wondering what does flounder look like. I never had really seen what a flounder appeared like.

Previously, this morning Point England School Staff and Students were all getting ready to head down to Wai o Taiki Bay, which is located not far from our School.

12 lucky students volunteered from our School to catch Flounder down at Wai o Taiki Bay for our Flounder Tank. Point England School 's Flounder tank has a total of more than 20 baby flounders. Meaning we have better Waters than Kauri Flats.

A couple or more weeks ago, Kauri Flats School, Nagati Paoa and Our School(Point England School) investigated if we could capture Flounder from our local harbours with students from The Marine Institute of Auckland University and then raise them in captivity at our schools with Mahurangi Technical Institute.

After catching the Flounder, we store them in Tanks and let them grow. Once they are bigger, we are going to release them back in the ocean.

Ratio and Proportions - Word Problems

For this week, our WALT is : We are learning to explain or show the steps we took to solve each problem. My thoughts on this week's learning is that I thought bit of the word problems were hard and quite easy to figure out. But I think that I now have a better understanding at solving Ratio and Proportion Word Problems now than I was before.

GEGNZ - Student Summit 2017

Today the Year 7 & 8 Extension group went to Ormiston Junior College for the GEGNZ Student Summit 2017. We went arrived in two groups which were P.E.N.N Team and The Scratch Team. Registration was the first place we went and were handed lanyards to put on.
( PS: I was apart of the PENN Team)

The GEGNZ Student Summit was attended by over 400 students from : Ormiston Primary, Ormiston College, Tamaki College, Stonefields School, Bucklands Beach School and many other schools. We went to many presentations and workshops where taught different things from different schools.

The P.E.N.N Team was the first to go back after the introduction in the Auditorium. Two groups of schools came to our Presentation were Holy Cross and Ormiston Primary School. After presenting, We let the school make their own NewsTo be honest when we were trying to pick workshops to go to, it was tough because most of the workshops required ipads which didn't have.

To Reflect upon the day, I have to say it was pretty fascinating seeing how technology has improved and has become part of our daily lives. What I learned from the trip to GEGNZ was how to use a program called Teleorgami. It's a app where you can record yourself saying something, and it has a avatar replaying.

Hundreds in Numbers up to 100, 000

This week in for Maths, My Maths group is learning to identify groups of hundred in numbers up to 100,000. In the presentation, our task was to figure out how many hundred dollar notes would it take to make a random amount of money. For an Example : The amount of money is $4,500, so my job would be to learn what amount or how many $100 notes would be in $4,500.

Introduction to Measurement

This week in my Maths Class, we were introduced to Measurement. First we were introduced to Standard and Non-Standard Measuring tool. Standard is what you would call a normal measuring tool. For an example: If your teacher were to ask you to pick a Standard Measuring tool out of a Ruler and Book, you would pick the Ruler because a Ruler is a Standard Measuring tool. Non-Standard is what you would call something that you would use instead of a Standard Measuring tool. A Non-Standard measuring tool is anything that you can use to measure.

Immersion Assembly Term 3!!

Immersion Assembly
It’s the beginning of a new term and the topic for this term is “Guardians of the Galaxy”. This term,  We will be focusing on Earth and Beyond, meaning the planets, Constellations and much more.

As per every new term,  Our school started off the Immersion Assembly with a cool performance. But from my personal opinion,  I have to say it has got to be the best beginning of Immersion Assembly by far.

Team One teachers were the first to present what they were going to be learning about. They presented a video which had teachers getting into cars and flying off to places. Team One will be learning about the Sun and Moon, and how they rotate around the earth.

After Team One presented what they were going to be doing this term, it was Team Two’s turn. Team Two’s focus for this term was kind of hard to tell because they presented a video with our the Team Two Teachers singing. But what I do know is that they will be going on a trip to Stardome.

Team Three also presented a video, they’re video was presented by Mrs King. They’re video was a bit funny with all the different facials and reactions. The Video was made up of different times, like 8:00, 3:40pm. It began with Mr Moran called Mrs King about what they were going to be doing for Immersion Assembly.

After Team Three presented they’re video,  it was Team four’s turn. Team four’s video was presented by Mr Somerville and it was based on Different planets. It had a group of kids pretending to be mission control, and they were sending teachers to different planets in space.

Last but not least was Team five with they’re live performance. To be honest, I always like Team 5’s live performances because they’re different from the rest and always are attention catching and Intriguing.

Introduction to Probability

For the past two weeks Ms Tapuke's Maths class were introduced to Probability. As you might be able to tell, I didn't attend Maths Class for the two weeks. But today I finally go to start week 9 and 10 work. So anyway, Probability means the chances of something happening for an example : In mathematics it means the probability of an event to occur. Some word we also learned that is used in Probability are : Impossible, Unlikely, Likely, Possible and Certain.

Persuasive Writing - Reasons

For the last couple of weeks we have been working on a our persuasive writing presentations. I have completed a couple of slides, but today I have completed two : Planning and Reasons. The Reasons slide was about counter arguments. Counter arguments are when you make an argument and you use all your reasons, evidence that prove you right, but when you counter argue you might consider another possible argument against your thesis.

Mode, Median, Mean and Range

This week we have been learning about Mode, Mean, Median and Range. The Mode, Mean, Median and Range are all used in Data Set. The Mode is the most common number in a Data set. Mean is when you add up all the numbers then divide by the number of item in a data set. The Median is the number in the middle after being put into numerical order. (PS : Numerical Order is when you have to put the number in order.) The Range is when you have to subtract the smallest number away from the largest number. Thanks for visiting my blog :)

Game Reflection : SO FAR

This Term in Extension we are creating a game based upon Space Exploration. This time the task is  bit difficult, we had to make the Aliens move and make the spaceship shoot as well. My Partner Sheena and I have created a game called Space Race and have completed level 1 and 2. Our Spaceship can shoot and move up, down, left and right.

Problems :
Some Problems we've had so far were when we had to make the spaceship be abled to shoot the Aliens. And the other problem was when we had to broadcast to the next level.

Solutions :
The Solutions were pretty simple, the solution for the spaceship to shoot was on a Youtube Tutorial. and the Other solutions was on a previous game we had created.

Extension - Researching

A couple of days ago, We did some researching on a some websites. The website I visited was about a brief history of Space Exploration. I found out quite lot of information about Space Exploration and how Space Exploration has improved a lot over time.

Here is was I found out :
In the history of Space Exploration, Space Exploration has improved a lot over time and will continue to improve day by day. The first space shuttle that was launched into space was in 1961 May 5th, when Alan Shepard, Jr. became the First American in Space aboard the Mercury Redstone 3. A month beforehand, Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space by orbiting the Earth in a Vostok Spacecraft on April 12 1961.

Unfortunately, as many as twenty four successful space shuttles succeeded in Scientific and Military requirements until January, 1986. That was when the Challenger Tragedy occurred on 28 January 1986, the Shuttle exploded due to an external tank explosion. The Space Shuttle broke apart because gasses in the external fuel tank mixed and caused it to explode and be torn apart.

In the Holidays ...

This school holidays I was told that I was going to be babysitting my sisters. The next morning, I woke up at 5:00am and had breakfast, then woke up my sisters.
My Mum got ready and headed to work, my little sister grabbed a blanket and went back to sleep. My slightly younger sister grabbed her tablet and started playing games.

I got bored, so I decided to watch a movie. I hopped on to YouTube and typed in Black Butler. My favourite part is when the butler said" Watashi wa shitsuji no 1tsu no jigokudesu ", when he said that in English it means "I'm one hell of a butler". During the holidays, I watched a ton of Anime. Something interesting about myself is that I like watching anime during my free time.

This is the saying that Sebastian says to other people, "Watashi wa akumade shitsuju desu!" which means 'I'm one hell of a butler.'

Word Problems - Decimals, Fractions and Percentages

This week, we had to complete all our task from this term. In this presentation we had to solve these word problems. My task was to find the answers to these word problems using fractions, decimals and percents. This took me a long time to complete because it was a bit tricky for me. I converted the word problems into fractions, percents and decimals.

Reflection : Talking Points

Walt : Participate in a group discussion by actively listening and speaking.
This week is the last week of the term, our main task is to finish off all learning tasks from previous weeks. Anyway, this week our WALT is to participate in a group discussion by actively listening and speaking. Meaning, we are learning to participate meaning take part in a group discussion by actively(normally) listening and speaking. So along with this WALT, we had a talking points presentation. In this presentation, we had to complete the presentation by our self then after we got into groups and discussed the topics. One of the topics were Donald Trump is going to be a great president, with this topic we had no one who agreed with the statement. Because everyone strongly believed that Donald Trump is not going to be a great president.

The Dark Moon

The Dark Moon
The sun’s rays bursted through the curtains and continuosly shone on her eyes. “Today is such a sunny day” Sarah thought as she brushed her teeth. She wandered into the kitchen while still trying to decided what to have for breakfast. She ate her breakfast in a quick five minutes, She gave a hearty burp and started texting her friends to met her outside her house in 15 minutes.

Sarah asked her friends if they wanted to go camping during the holidays. The place was far from Auckland, but if was only a two hour drive. But if they beat the traffic they could get there in an hour and half. She luckily found a car to travel in and started packing her bags. Sarah’s friend text her if it was alright for them to leave without her and she texted back say it’s fine.

They all left together but into vehicles. Sarah kept a steady pace but as she drove on and on, she was soon fast approaching a vast forest. But just as she seemed to being soon reaching her destination, her car broke down.

Sarah tried using her phone but there was any reception. It was going to get dark soon, suddenly there was a loud noise, similiar to someone in pain. Sarah had a bad feeling about this, so she and her friend to get in the car.

Soon night emerged and the two was getting tired, it had been a long day for both of them. After a couple of hours of sleeping, the two awake to the sound of someone sleeping. They both rushed out of the car to see what was the sound of someone in pain.

Sarah and her friend Mackenzie overthrown by the power of curiousity and wondered into the forest. They continued walking until the sound repeated itself once more. This time they couldn’t resist continuing on.

It was very dark but fortunately, the moon was abled to light the way a bit through the trees. Mackenzie felt as if something or someone following them but when she turned around there was nothing. Sarah and Mackenzie kept walking until they felt like they were getting closer.

The sound repeated itself once more, this time Sarah and Mackenzie were sure that they were close. Mackenzie had a feeling that they were being followed.”Hey Sarah, I feel like that someone or something is following us” said Mackenzie, “Yeah, Me too” said Sarah.

As they both stopped and started looking around. Suddenly Mackenzie felt something sratch her foot but there was nothing. Fortunately it was a deep cut and the two of them continued on. Sarah could see from far that there was a small hut, and decided to check it out.

Sarah and Mackenzie continued on, towards the small hut. As they reach closer and closer to the hut, they soon notice thousands of dead bodies hanging from trees and some sticks. The two stopped for a moment and hesitated on continuing on.

The two continued on, walking past dead bodies of women and men. Suddenly the sound ringed again through the forest and kept echoing in their eyes. Sarah and Mackenzie both rushed towards the door and knocked on it.

After a moment of waiting, soon the door creaked open and an old women appeared behind it. She had huge banges under both eyes. Her hair was a sliver color and was trembling with fear. She asked both of them why they were here in a creepy voice.

Sarah and Mackenzie said “ We were wondering what the sound was and wanted to know what it was. She said it was a strange creature that creates creepy noises just to attract victims and kill them.
Mackenzie asked “ Do you know anything like the name ?”, the old lady raised one eyebrow and said “ It name is Ciphered because its eyes turn red whenever it kills. But the strangest thing about it, is that its always follows its victims until it’s time to kill them.

Sarah and Mackenzie waited for a moment before going back to the car. Sarah and Mackenzie carried on walking but suddenly stopped, they thought they had heard something in the bushes. Mackenzie thought is was the thing that was following them and started running towards the car.

Sarah was left behind a second, but very soon they both were running in top speed heading towards the car. Soon they were fast approaching the car and they got inside. Soon the sound was heard again but this time there were a few scratches in the car door and front.

Sadly the old women forgot to tell Sarah and Mackenzie that the creature could turn invisible. The Car was being shaked and pushed in every direction. Sarah looked at Mackenzie carefully, and realised that she wasn’t sleeping but in fact dead. The Creature had killed Mackenzie, and Sarah was the only one left. Sarah had no choice but to run and find some place to hide. As Sarah was trying to escape something grabbed her from behind and ....

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

This week for Maths, we are focusing on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. In the Presentation above, we had to complete a series of different worded problems. Some questions were fractions, decimals and percentages. Since I'm new to percentages, I thought they were a bit difficult but I'm sure I'll soon get the hand of it. The Fractions and Decimals were pretty easy, since I'm familiar with them.

Point England School, have you ever heard it ? If you didn’t it is located in
Glen Innes, Auckland NZ. Search it on Google Maps, I’m sure you’ll find it. Anyway, I’m here today to explain why this place is special to my community.

Why is this ordinary school so special ? Well let me tell you it isn’t like many other schools. Here at Point England, we learn on chromebooks, ipads and imacs as an everyday bases. In other words, we are a Cyber Smart school. You might have not known, but we are one of many schools in a programme called Manaiakalani.

What is Manaiakalani ? Manaiakalani is a group of schools, who have special people helping them get netbooks and chromebooks. Our school was one of the first schools to get chromebooks. Chromebooks have been around our school for a very long time now. It first began in 2010 in Room 20, just last year was our school’s chromebook anniversary. And the year thirteens who were in that class had an reunion at there old school.

There are also many other things that make our school special. One thing that makes our school special is that we get our own reserve. Our School has been built right next to Point England Reserve, and every year we have an whole school pinic. Next week on friday, we’re having our school pinic there.

Last but not least, here at Point England we’re grateful for many things, not just chromebooks, ipad, imacs but many advantages. We’re so grateful for having fruit in Schools, Milk in Schools and an amazing advantage of many amazing teachers who come everyday to teach amazing students.

Why I think Point England is Special, I think my school is special because we get the opportunity to learn on chromebooks instead of pencils and books.
And we’re so lucky to get seven working imacs in each classroom with 3 ipads in a classroom.  And with a intermediate school as well as an primary school combined.

Come along to our wonderful School, and I promise you, that you’ll love it here.
