1.What does, ‘apple of my Papa’s eye’ mean? Why is phrase used? it means that if you love something so much that you say apple of my papa ‘s eye.

2. What is a spritsail?
The spritsail is a sail that is being blowed by the wind the looks like a spritsail.
3. Why do you think this boat is flat bottomed with high bows? Because the flat bottom helps the boat float.

4. Why would the wakana would be stronger than other wood? because the wood is sepcial so it is stonger, then other wood.

5. What are squalls? Why would this make it a good day for testing their boats?
spualls are heavy rain, thunderstorms and heavy snow.

6. Why did Papa tell the children to sit out on the outrigger?
because the full force of the wind struck them, lifting the outrigger  out of the water.

7. Why would he steer the boat windward?  Because they are going towards the wind direction the wind is coming from.

8. What would happen when he turned leeward?  that means that they are are going away from the wind direction.

My younger baby Sister

              My little baby Sister

My little baby sister is the funniest in the family but we love her, her name is Zaria.she also the youngest in the family. Me and my baby sister like to go to the movies and watch the movie called Rio 2 she goes  to the kindergarten.We both like to watch movies and ride our bikes. it so much fun. Also me and my sister like to go to sylvia park and so so much fun and delicious ! I  love my baby sister because she is so funny and she so so so clever.

1. What does pruning mean? Pruning means to tidy up and clean up


2. Why does grandma want to save the seeds? because there aren't many whau trees left and to grow some more.


3. What did the boys notice about the wood? The boys noticed that the whau wood is probably the lightest wood in the world. because it is lighter than cork


4. Why do you think Daniel thought it was a good idea to make rafts from the whau? Because the whau wood is really light so they made rafts out of it.because it can float very well.


5. What was the difference between the brown whau branches and the green whau branches? The brown whau wood is much much more lighter than the green whau wood because the green whau wood is really really heavier than the brown whau wood.


6. Which raft do you think will float better and why? The brown whau wood raft is buoyant  because the brown whau wood raft can float and the green whau wood raft is heavier than the brown whau wood raft.


7. What observations did they make about putting the lemons on the rafts? Write what happened to each raft when the put lemons on top? The one made out of the pine sank when the lemons were add and the green raft floated but it floated a little bit below the surface. The dry whau wood raft held four lemons easily and floated high in the water.

1. UNFURL - Find out the meaning of this word and then write a sentence of your own to show the meaning. make or become spread out from a rolled or folded state, especially in order to be open to the wind.


2. How do you tell which way the wind is coming from? You can tell which way the wind is coming form is that if you go and stand pop your face out you can kind of feel the wind and you also can tell which way the wind is coming  from.


3. Can you think of a another way of finding out? Ask a classmate to test out your theory.


4. What makes the Optimist so sturdy, safe and unsinkable? Explain your answer:The centerboard help ‘s the Optimist sailing dinghies to balance on the water.
