Week 2 - Activity 2 Bullfighting

Here is my decision :

My opinon is that I think bullfighting should be banned because of two reasons why I think it should be banned :

Number 1 :
The First reason why bullfighting should be banned would be because it’s dangerous. For an example : If you weren’t careful, you could kill yourself.

Number 2 :
The second reason why bullfighting should be banned would be because harming the animal. For an example : Imagine yourself as a young bull and your dad was sent into a bullfight, and never came back. How would you feel ?

So these are the reasons why I think bullfighting should be banned.

Reflection of 2016

This year has been a great year. I’ve learned a bit more in literacy and Maths. But most importantly, my confidence has grown a bit more. Some of the highlights this year would Rainbow’s End with all the year 7’s.

The trip to Rainbow’s End was great and I had alot of fun. We got divided into groups of 6, in my group it was made up of : Anahere, Me Machelle, Amethyst, Lanzie and Lomio. The first ride we went on was the Scorpion Karts, you could do as many laps as u wanted. I came first in the Scorpion Karts.

My favourite ride at Rainbow’s End was Fearfall,  because it was funny when we came screaming down. My favourite ride at Rainbow’s End was the Roller Coaster, because it went round and round, and cause we went on twice.

Something that I’m proud of this year is my blog, because I completed most of my work and finished it.

A message or something I would take with me for 2017 would be what I have learnt this year and my friendships. I would definetly that them with me for 2017 because it would have help through 2017 and the coming years in college.

The things that I have learnt in this school, I will take with me to college. And all the friendships I have made will be with me for all my life.

Some goals for next year would be to make a HUGE improvement on my maths and writing. I want to make a HUGE improvement because in college I don’t want to be put in the wrong class.

Mexico - Activity 1

Mexico - Activity 1

I have chosen Mexico because of two reasons why :
1. First reason because Mexico is a very interesting country, and I’m going to enjoy learning about it.
2. Second reason is for the country’s food, Mexico is famous for it’s food.

Mixture of Problems 2

WALT: solving problems using the most efficient strategies

This week in Miss Berry’s maths class, we tried doing a different classes maths. This presentation above is from Mr Wiseman’s maths class. During this presentation, I found it difficult at times but I complete it at the end. So hope you like. And while doing this presentation, our walt was to solve problems using the most efficient strategies, meaning we had to try using efficient strategies. Efficient meaning logical, well organised and many other words.

Science Investigation - Fair Testing

Science Investigation
Fair Testing
Fill out the following table to help you explain the Growing in the dark: Plants and light experiment

Aim - what are you trying to find out?
We’re trying to find out if plants need light to grow ?
Hypothesis - what do you think your results will be?
I think the result would be that the plant without light would stay the same.
Independent Variable - what variable will you change?
I would change the amount of planet spray.
Dependent Variable - what variable will you measure?
I would change the measurement of soil.
Controlled Variable - what variables will you keep the same?
The amount of plant seed.

The students of Room 4 wanted to find out what colour of bird feeders birds preferred. FIll our the table below thinking of which variables you would make independent, dependent and controlled.

Aim - what are you trying to find out?
What colour of bird feeders do birds preferred
Hypothesis - what do you think your results will be?
I think the birds would pick the red bird feeder, because it’s not too bright colour or too dark.
Independent Variable - what variable will you change?
I would put different types of colours, like bright and dark, cold colours and hot as well.
Dependent Variable - what variable will you measure?
The amount of seeds in all the bird feeders.
Controlled Variable - what variables will you keep the same?
I would put all the bird feeders in the same place.

Scientific Methods and Fair testing.

Title - Coke Cola and Mentos Experiment
Purpose: What do you want to learn/find out?
Which fizzy drink has the biggest reaction to the mentos?

Hypothesis: Try to predict the answer to the problem. Another term for hypothesis is ‘educated guess’. This is usually stated like ” If I…(do something) then…(this will occur)
My hypothesis is the coke might have the biggest reaction to the mentos. Because the carbon dioxide in the drink wouldn’t have anywhere to go, except up.

Materials: List everything you will need to conduct your experiment.
Mentos
Coke
Pepsi
7up
Fanta
Diet Coke
L&P

Experiment procedure: The fun part! Design a test or procedure to confirm or disprove your hypothesis. Write
1. First we stabbed a hole through the cap, and stuck some tap through the hole with mentos on it.

2.Then we opened the lid and pulled the tape, causing the mentos to fall into the liquid.

3. We stood away from the bottle and measured how high the liquid goes.

Analysis/Data: Record what happened during the experiment.
Fanta : The fanta didn’t reacted with the mentos, it’s reaction was nothing.
Pepsi : The Pepsi had a little reaction with the mentos, it fizzed up a little.
7up : The 7up had the least reaction with the mentos, because it was really fizzed and it overflowed.
Diet Coke : The diet coke had the least reaction with the mentos, it fizzed up only a tiny bit.
Coke : The coke had the biggest reaction with the mentos.
L&P : The L&P had the least reaction with the mentos.

Conclusion:Review the data and check to see if your hypothesis was correct.
My hypothesis was correct, because when the mentos touches the carbon dioxide in the drink the carbon dioxide doesn’t have anywhere to go except up, which causes the drink to over flow.

As you might have known, last week the team 5 girls conducted the coke cola and mentos experiment. This week in our home classes, we are looking at scientific methods and fair testing.

TESTING WEEK !

This week is TESTING WEEK ! Testing week lasts two weeks, and is made of different types. At our school, we have our tests online, meaning that we use our Chromebooks. This week is the last week of testing. Last week, we had a reading star test, a writing test, and a NZCER test.

This morning we had an NZCER maths exam, which was held in our numeracy classes. When we have exams held in our numeracy classes, we set up our classrooms like American classrooms. If you don't know what a American class looks like, take a look :

If you want to have a great education or a great life, then you have to study and do well at all your test subjects before moving on with your life. If you do well in your test, then you can make it into a great university and have a job and a driving license.

  • No talking to the person next to you/Don't try cheating because that means that you're not trying your best at the test.

  • Try using these strategies to help you out when you have come across hard maths problems that you don't know how to solve?
  1. Process of Elimination - Means that you read the question and you try looking at all your options that you have. Then you can cross out each option that you think doesn't suit the question.

     2. Identify Key Words - You have to try and search for all the keywords that you have found in the         question and try understanding what it means.

3. Read Question 3 Times - This means that you have to try and read the question 3 times before answering the question

Immersion Assembly - Term 4 2016 !!!

On Monday 10th October 2016, Pt England School had their first Immersion Assembly to kick off the new term. It began at nine ‘o'clock sharp and was held at their school hall. As everyone entered the school hall, at the front of the hall were the associate principal and principal Mr Burt and Mrs Nua.

As they stood there, they had aprons on and it looked as if they had been cooking. Laid out in front of them, on two tables were cooking utensils and ingredients. By the looks of ingredients, they might have been making pancakes or Corn fritters. When everyone was settled and the hall was  quiet enough, they began their Immersion Assembly. The two of them were making corn fritters and had them served out as everyone watched each of the items, from five teams that were to follow.

Team 1’s item was about matter, physical and chemical changes. As the teachers made their way towards the stage, they were all dressed very  oddly. They wore black capes, with pointy witch hats and they all had broomsticks. When they arrived onstage, they started to dance around a small pretend cauldron. As they did, one or two of them stopped and throw things at the audience, making the little kids at the front try catching them. After they performed, they played their movie.

Next up was Team 2, they had created a movie on buoyancy. During their movie they threw objects into a swimming pool to see if they will sink, or float. The first object thrown in was a canned food, which actually sunk. The second object thrown in was a tennis ball, which floated. The third object was actually Miss Eddie’s Son, he actually floated.

Continuing on, next up was Team 3. Team 3’s teachers had conducted mini experiments throughout their movie. One of the experiments starred Miss Scanlan, a team three teacher. Her experiment was called the tie dye milk. This experiment might be familiar to you as a different name, because this experiment has many different names. This experiment as you might know, involves you needing : a small shallow bowl of some sort, Dish washing detergent, a kebab stick or cotton bud, and milk. For the milk, you can use half or whole it’s up to you.

First she poured the milk into the shallow bowl, then she added food colouring. For this part she had chosen three colours instead of four, Red, Blue and green. As she did she instructed us to drip the colours everywhere in the bowl to get the ultimate effect. Last of all was the washing up liquid, and she dropped in right in the middle. As the washing liquid it the surface of the milk, the colours were pushed to the side and they bounced back. This experiment was a Physical Change, because there was a change in the appearance and colour.

Now it’s time for Team 4 and they presented their movie. Team 4’s movie was based on Busting myths. They’re movie was starring : Mr Sommerville, Mr Goodwin and the rest of Team 4’s teachers. They’re first myth was : Without Coffee in the morning Mr Goodwin can’t stay awake. And they proved the myth true, it was true Mr Goodwin can’t stay awake without coffee. The next myth was : Staring at a screen will give you square eyes. And that myth was busted, it wasn’t true that staring at a screen wouldn’t give you square eyes.

Finally it’s Team 5’s turn, this term team 5 is learning about Matter, and States of Matter. Matter is all around us, it is what things are made up of. States of Matter are Solids, Liquids and Gases. Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy Vottom was one of the characters onstage and was played by Mr Wiseman, one of team 5’s teachers. The other character onstage was Slave and was played by Mrs IIaoa, one of the Team 5’s teachers. And the rest of the teachers were to be the victim or in other words test subject.

Their live performance involved all of the teacher of team 5. Their live performance involved : Ice, Water balloons and Pepsi soda - PS : Ask an adult before trying these experiment at home. Anyway, The first experiment conducted involved the water balloons and Mrs Tele’a. Soon she was ordered to sit on the chair as Slave popped the two water balloons over her head. The whole school bursted out laughing, and slowly stopped. The next experiment was held on Miss Berry, and the involved the Pepsi Soda. As Slave was ordered by Mr Fuzzy Wuzzy Vottom to shake the soda cans well. Miss Berry excitedly took the lab glasses and put them on, Slave came over and opened the can. The can opened with a tick and looked like a gusher has just exploded in Miss Berry’s face. The last experiment involved ice, Miss Clark tensely walked up to Slave. Slave grabbed her blocks of ice and poured it down Miss Clark’s Back. She slowly began to move as the ice made it’s way down her back, but part way down got suck in her t-shirt.

I think the most exciting team’s item was Team 5’s live performance. Because it was really funny and exciting watching it. Plus it was really funny to see how the teachers looked.

States of Matter

States of matter
Task
Work on this Doc together with a partner or in a 3.

Give three examples of each state of matter?
Solid
Liquid
Gas
Extremely Close
Close
Far apart
Rock Hard
Watery
Smoke
Compressed
Free running
Steam

What’s the difference between the three states of matter?
Solids
Liquids
Gases
Solids are hard and compressed and it’s mostly steel, Plastic, wood and Concrete, Rock.
Liquids are very runny and it’s mostly water and stuff that are runny like water.
Gases are invisible and you can walk through it, feeling nothing.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you learned from this reading.
From this reading task, I learnt that everything around us is made out of matter. And everything that is made of matter is anything, that has mass and takes up space. I also learnt more about Solids, Liquids and Gases and the difference between them. The Difference between them is : Solids are hard and compressed, because their atoms are very close.Liquids are very runny and close together, because their atoms are close together. And Gases are like steam because their atoms are further apart.

As you have might not known our topic for this term is ch ch ch ch Changes. Meaning we're looking at Science, like : chemical reactions, Physical reactions and Solids, Liquids and Gases get the picture? So for Literacy we're looking at States of Matter, we focused on Solids, Liquids and Gases which are all states of Matter. It was really interesting learning about State of Matter.

Algebra - Term 4 Week 1

This week in Miss Berry's class for Maths, we're focusing on Algebra. Our WALT on this task was to understand and work out variables. Variables means changeable which means able to be changed or adapted. In our presentations we had to read the problem and write an algebraic expression to help us work out the answer. My thoughts on this task are that I thought is was hard at first but as I started working through this task it became easier.

Ebola VS Black Death

Two mortal Diseases might be the Same ?

Scientists have been researching and have been starting to believe that both disease might be the same. Researchers Christopher Duncan and Susan Scott, forge an argument that the Black death was most likely caused a hemorrhagic virus like Ebola. In order to compare both disease, they had to draw detailed comparisons. The duo looked at both ways from the symptoms to how they both spread.

The Black Plague is a disease which has many names such as: Bubonic Plague, Disastrous mortal disease, Yersinia Pestis, The Great Mortality, The Great Plague, The Black Death (commonly known as) and The Black Plague. The Black Death is a disease which happened in the 13th century during 1348 - 1350,  It killed one third of Europe’s population.

This disease was caused by Ship Rats or commonly known as House Rats who like living near people. It spreads by fleas who are infected by sick rats. The fleas got infected because rats which they feed on got sick and started to die. Which cause the starving fleas to turn on humans.

The Ebola virus disease, Ebola hemorrhagic fever,  or for short EVD's first appearance was in 1976 in 2 coincident, one in what is now, Nzara, South Sudan, and the other in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. This Disease’s latest appearance was around March 2014 in West Africa.  The latest appearance occurred in a village near the Ebola river, which is where the disease got its name.

It is thought that fruit bats are the natural hosts of the Ebola virus. Which means  that the Ebola virus was introduced into Human population by people having close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals. The contact would probably be with chimpanzees, gorillas, Fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelopes, porcupines who are found ill, dead or in the rainforest.
The symptoms for the black death are a bit similar to the Ebola Virus. The Black death symptoms are : Painful swollen buboes, Chills, Fever, Headache, muscle weakness, Abdominal pain, Tissue bleeding and death. They both seem the same but the EVD(Ebola virus disease) however has many more symptoms and is deadlier.

However the Ebola Virus symptoms are : Nausea and Vomiting, Diarrhea (may be bloody), red eyes, raised rash, Chest Pain and Cough, Stomach Pain, Severe weight loss, Bleeding usually from the eyes. People nearly die from other orifices, such as ears, nose and rectum.

Both, Ebola and the Black plague are pretty similar, due to the way both diseases have been caused which was animals. The second similarity is that most people don’t recover or survive from both disease, meaning both disease are equally deadly.

I think that both disease are the same, because they both are mortal diseases and are contagiously deadly. They had been transmitted by animals, the Black Death was transmitted by rat fleas and the Ebola Virus was transmitted by Fruit bats.
